The Department of Mathematics at Kiel University invites applications
for the position of a Professor for Mathematics in the Life Sciences (W3).

The future holder of the position should represent a current area of
(pure or applied) mathematics in research and teaching and promote
cooperation between mathematics and life sciences.

We are looking for a scientist who will strengthen the activities of the
Kiel Life Science Research Center ( with
a focus on evolutionary biology. Connections to the priority research
area Kiel Nano, Surface and Interface Science

looking for a mathematician who is scientifically qualified at an
internationally visible level in an area of mathematics that expands the
existing research fields at the Department of
Mathematics in a meaningful way. Possible research areas include:

• Discrete mathematics (e.g. genome assembly)
• Graph/network theory (e.g. temporal/dynamic aspects)
• Dynamical systems (e.g. population dynamics)

A PhD in mathematics (for example, also in biomathematics) is mandatory.
Willingness for interdisciplinary collaboration in existing and planned
research networks for life sciences in Kiel is expected. Experience in
obtaining external funding is desirable.
