The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Friedrich Schiller
University Jena invites applications for a

Professorship (W2 with tenure track to W3) in Probability Theory

in the Institute of Mathematics, which is available from April 1st,

Candidates should be internationally recognised for outstanding
research in a modern area of probability theory. They should display
the potential for collaboration with the current research strengths at
the department. The potential for collaboration in the context of one
of the interdisciplinary profile lines LIGHT, LIFE, LIBERTY would be
particulary welcome. Candidates should also be willing to explore
cooperation opportunities within the wider university and with our
partner universities in Halle and Leipzig. Experience connected with
the acquisition of third-party funding is expected.

Teaching duties include basic and advanced lecture courses in
probability theory for the undergraduate, graduate and teacher training
mathematics programmes, together with service teaching for computer
science and for other faculties. Non-native speakers will be expected
to acquire the ability to teach in German within three years of being
appointed. The successful applicant should have leadership skills and
will also be expected to do their fair share of administrative work.

A doctoral degree and teaching skills are required, as is a
postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation) or an equivalent body of
postdoctoral scientific work. The successful candidate will initially
be employed for a fixed term of six years, on the W2 professorial pay
scale. Subject to a positive tenure evaluation, they will then be
appointed to a tenured position on the W3 professorial scale, without
there being any need for us to readvertise the position.
