Postdoc Stelle, Uni Göttingen
The Institute for Mathematical Stochastics (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science) of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen invites applications for a
PostDoc Position (f/m/d)
“Statistical Foundations of Data Science”
starting from November 1, 2022 or later for an initial duration of three years with an option to be extended by one year. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (E13 TV-L) at 100% of the regular working hours (currently 39.8 hours per week).
We are looking for highly-motivated applicants with a very good PhD thesis in mathematics, statistics or a related area who have an excellent background in statistical theory and/or computational statistics and optimization.
The advertised position is associated with the working group of Prof. Axel Munk, www.stochastik.math.uni-goettingen.de/munk.
The PostDoc is expected to enter actively in research collaborations within the Institute’s activities. Research topics include but are not limited to: Statistical data analysis based on optimal transport, empirical processes and applications, sublinear time statistical estimation and testing, statistical inference on discrete structures such as graphs and networks, and geometrical statistical methods for temporal-spatial data.
Half of the position is within the DFG-Cluster of Excellence: “MBExC: Multiscale Bioimaging: From molecular machines to networks of excitable cells” and it is expected that the candidate shows strong interest to collaborate in a team together with lab scientists and other groups from mathematics and computational science. Possible applications include the development of new data analysis techniques for cryo-EM, super resolution microscopy or the analysis of cell formation and evolution.
Finishing a habilitation or the willingness to work toward it is very welcome.
Reduced teaching duties for an equivalent of 2 hours of classes a week during the semester involve support for the newly developed lecture cycle "Statistical foundations of data science" and the co-organization of seminars. Good English language skills are important, German language skills are useful but not required.
