Postdoc in probability theory at the University of Innsbruck, AT.

We are looking for a postdoc in probability theory to complement our team of the START-project Optimisation Principles, Models & Algorithms for Dictionary Learning at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Innsbruck.

To support our research into theory for dictionary learning (sparse matrix factorisation) we are looking for an expert in probability theory. More information about dictionary learning and our research can be found at The math department has a growing stochastics group and the project has ongoing cooperations with groups in Rennes (FR), Genova (IT), Oslo (NO) and Vienna (AT). Working language is English but (readiness to acquire) some German skills will be useful for every day life in Innsbruck.

The position with an initial salary of about 52.00e/year gross on a 40h/week basis (part-time on request) is initially for 2 years, but can be extended until May 31, 2023, earliest starting date May, 2019.

Candidates should have expertise (a PhD) in probability theory, interest in the application of probabilistic tools to concrete problems in dictionary learning as well as their own research agenda. A background in dictionary learning is not required but expertise in relevant fields such as random matrices, decoupling or stochastic geometry is an advantage. Interested candidates are invited to apply, by submitting (pdf only)

- a scientific cv and
- a motivation letter, including a short description of their research agenda and contact details of two referees, to by April 30, 2019.

Please note that completion of the PhD is not necessary at the time of application but is a requirement for the job start. For any concrete questions please send an email to the address above.
