The University of Salzburg invites applications for a fully funded pre-doctoral position (75%, three years) within the Doctoral School Plus (DSP) Human-Centered AI: From Data & Algorithms to Interfaces. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research environment that combines expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, Geoinformatics, Privacy Engineering, and Governance to advance the scientific foundations of Human-Centered AI.
Dissertation Topic
_Human-Centered Responsible Artificial Intelligence: Interdisciplinary Foundations, Methods, and Human-AI Interaction_
The doctoral project investigates how interdisciplinary theories, research methods, and interaction design approaches can be integrated to understand, design, and evaluate Human-Centered Responsible AI systems. The project explores topics including Human-AI Collaboration, Explainable AI, Human-in-the-Loop systems, AI Literacy, Fairness, Transparency, Trustworthy AI, Responsible AI, and Human-Centered Design.
The successful candidate will contribute to developing conceptual frameworks, conducting empirical studies, designing interactive AI systems, and publishing results in leading international conferences and journals in Human-Computer Interaction and Artificial Intelligence.

The Artificial Intelligence and Human Interfaces (AIHI) Department brings together research and teaching expertise in the closely related fields of statistics and stochastics, data science, machine learning, visual data processing, and human-machine interaction. It promotes the expansion of research and collaboration initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and new approaches to and qualities of human-computer interaction (HI) at Paris Lodron University. Our department is distinguished by its excellent research, a wide range of national and international projects, successful acquisition of third-party funding, and close collaboration with renowned industry partners.
