PhD student in Göttingen (Optimization & Genetics)

The University of Goettingen is offering a position as a PhD student (m-f-d), limited for up to 3 years. The salary is according to the German pay scale (E 13 TV-L (100%) with regular working hours (39,8 hours/week).

The field of activity includes the development of a tool for the optimization of breeding programs based on the existing R-package MoBPS (Modular Breeding Program Simulator, and is in cooperation with a leading international plant breeding and biotechnology company. Essential parts of the work are the application and development of methods for stochastic optimization and the efficient programming of data-intensive processes as well as further development of a graphical user interface. The developed software tool will be used to model highly complex plant breeding programs in detail and to optimize them under different aspects.

Your profile:
University degree in mathematics, computer science or agricultural sciences with focus on statistics.
Good programming skills in R / C / JavaScript or similar programming languages.
Knowledge in quantitative genetics, breeding and process optimization is desirable but not mandatory.
Willingness to work in an international research group and longer stays abroad within Europe. Proficiency in English.
