PhD positions at University of Potsdam
The DFG-funded collaborative research centre SFB 1294 Data Assimilation (www.sfb1294.de) is currently accepting applications for its interdisciplinary PhD program on data assimilation (DA) and scientific machine learning (ML). The centre and its graduate school are jointly organised by the University of Potsdam, the Technische Universität Berlin, the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, the Weierstraß-Institut Berlin and the GFZ Helmholtz Zentrum Potsdam.
Two fully funded PhD positions for the period 2/2022 to 1/2025 are available in Sebastian Reich's group (www.math.uni-potsdam.de/~sreich/) at the University of Potsdam, Germany. The general research topic of the positions is on the statistical and mathematical foundation of DA and ML in the context of future data-driven science and engineering. The PhD work will be closely aligned with; but is not limited to, the current research projects of SFB 1294. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate in the 2023 Isaac Newton Institute program www.newton.ac.uk/event/dde/.
Applicants have to hold a completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in mathematics, statistics, or data science by the time the PhD position starts. A solid knowledge in the theory of differential equations, probability theory, machine learning, and numerical analysis is desirable. Good command of German and/or English are required, both written and spoken.
Applications submitted by Feb 25, 2022 will receive full consideration. The search will remain open until both positions are filled. The starting date of the positions is July 1, 2022; but could be delayed to the Fall 2022 if needed.
Documents to submit: CV including a link to the Master thesis, cover letter explaining interests and goals, and two reference letters. Applications should be submitted as a single PDF document (max 5 MB) by e-mail to email@example.com.
