PhD position on statistical theory for deep learning at the University of Twente
The statistics group at the University of Twente (UT, in the Netherlands) has a vacancy for a Ph.D. student to work on statistical theory for deep neural networks. Deep networks are now state of the art for many complex tasks such as object detection on images, speech recognition and game playing. Despite these successes, deep networks are poorly understood. A statistical theory that explains the successes and points to possible limitations is highly needed. The successful PhD candidate will work on theoretical questions related to statistical risk bounds for deep neural networks.
A requirement is a M.Sc. degree in mathematics/statistics with solid background in probability theory and mathematical statistics.
This is a fully paid job with salary ranging from EUR 2.325,- (1st year) to EUR 2.972,- (4th year) per month, plus holiday allowance (8%) and end-of-year bonus (8.3%).
The deadline for applications is August 15. Intended starting date for the position is in October/November this year. Additional information can be found here
