Open PostDoc position at the University of Geneva
The Research Center for Statistics invites applications for the
following position opening February 1, 2020.
Research Center for Statistics, University of Geneva
Statistical models for climate extremes or financial crises are based on
extreme value theory. There is currently a high interest in modeling
such extreme events in complex scenarios with underlying graphical
structures, and in exploring connections to high-dimensional inference
and causality. The prospective PostDoc will work at the interface of
these research fields and potential topics include the development of
statistical methods to learn sparse structures in multivariate extremes.
The PostDoc will be part of the group of Prof. Sebastian Engelke within
the SNSF Eccellenza grant on "Graph structures, sparsity and
high-dimensional inference for extremes". Close collaboration and
exchanges are planned with the group of Prof. Stanislav Volgushev
(University of Toronto).
Profile of the candidate
The successful candidate holds a PhD in Statistics or Probability Theory
and has a strong interest in at least one of the fields: extreme value
theory, empirical process theory, graphical models, causality. She/he
has excellent programming skills and should be proficient in English.
- Type of appointment: Full time (100%) fixed term appointment; hired on
a 1-year contract renewable for a maximum duration span of 5 years.
- Starting date: February 1, 2020 or upon agreement.
