NASA-funded postdoc in computational statistics at Texas A&M University

The Texas A&M Department of Statistics is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to be funded by a newly awarded 2-year NASA grant. The position will primarily be supervised by Dr. Matthias Katzfuss, in collaboration with scientists at NASA/JPL. The research is related to the following areas:
- probabilistic machine learning using transport maps and Gaussian processes
- Bayesian non-Gaussian and nonparametric emulation and uncertainty quantification
- scalable geospatial analysis of massive climate-model output
- efficient software implementation using stochastic gradient descent and automatic differentiation

The position is designed as a career-building step for a junior scholar, with the development of a research program as a focus. The postdoc will be trained in conducting and presenting research, publishing papers, and creating software for wide dissemination of the research. Travel to conferences and research visits to NASA/JPL are expected.

Details:
- Highly competitive salary and benefits
- Start date: September 1, 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
- Position is available pending official approval by the TAMU Vice President for Research
- Doctorate in Statistics, Computer Science, or related field required (at time of appointment)
- Initial appointment for one year, with extension to a second year subject to satisfactory performance
