Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)

The position is offered, subject to funding approval, for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is 01.08.2022. The position is full-time with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 100 %).

Your responsibilities will include scientific work in the BMBF Center PerMed-COPD. In particular bio- statistical and bioinformatic analyses of molecular genetic data for the elucidation of chronic obstruc- tive pulmonary disease (COPD) is subject of the position. This includes the analysis of transcriptome- wide expression data generated by bulk or single-cell sequencing (e. g., 10x Genomics). The data will be analyzed in an integrative fashion with data from genome-wide and methylome-wide association studies (GWAS/MWAS) obtained from large patient cohorts. In addition, new methods will be developed for the prediction of disease risk and patient stratification integrating gene expression and other omics data sets.

The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to the period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period). Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal quali- fication is given. The limitation of the contract complies to § 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG.

Qualification requirements include a Master-degree (Diploma or equivalent) and PhD and/or Doctor of Medicine or very advanced doctoral studies in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, biology, medicine or equivalent with a strong background in biomedical research and a track record of research excellence. In-depth knowledge involving programming is expected (e.g. R, python, BASH). Passion for science, dedication, integrity, good problem solving and interpersonal skills are critical. Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
