At the University of Göttingen - Public Law Foundation – we have a
position at the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1456 Mathematics of
Experiment, October 1, 2023 or later, as
Doctoral Researcher (PhD Student) (all genders welcome)
75% of pay grade 13 TV-L -
to offer. The vacancy is limited for 3 years. If the CRC 1456 will not be continued beyond the 1st funding period, the research activities will be continued at the Institute for Mathematical Stochastics.

About us:
At the CRC 1456, we develop new mathematical concepts for the efficient reconstruction and classification of relevant structural information in biomolecules. In doing so, we benefit from an interplay between approaches in statistics, geometry and optimization. We offer an interdisciplinary qualification program that equips our graduate students with a broad set of skills for analyzing data – also beyond the scientific scope of our CRC.

The position:
You will conduct research in project A01 which deals with statistics on non-Euclidean spaces with applications in ENDOR microscopy. Additionally, you will take part in our study program, which includes special lectures and seminars, our annual SFB workshop, regular meetings with other PhD students as well as with your thesis advisory committee, and a course on good scientific practice.

Your profile:
As a successful candidate, you
- hold an excellent or very good Master’s degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or physics,
- have strong interest in mathematical and multivariate statistics and/or geometry and a reliable background in one of these areas,
- are proficient in written and spoken English,
- have gained some relevant experience in programming (e.g., Python, R, C++).
